The Role
As a Senior Backend Developer at Daylight, you'll help build Django APIs and backend services that power our mobile app and partner integrations. You'll develop functionality that enables homeowners to monitor, control, and optimize energy usage while participating in our decentralized energy network.
As an early-stage startup, this role includes meaningful input into architecture, user experience, and product direction. As we scale, you’ll have opportunities to grow into leadership, mentor junior developers, and shape backend and mobile-related strategy.
This role is ideal for someone passionate about crypto and clean energy who values high-quality engineering and thrives in dynamic startup environments. This is an in-person role in our New York City office.
Responsibilities
GraphQL & REST API Development
- Design and build GraphQL queries and mutations optimized for mobile use.
- Architect and maintain scalable REST and GraphQL endpoints for partner integrations.
- Collaborate with teams to define and ship backend-driven features.
- Monitor performance, resolve bottlenecks, and ensure reliability.
- Champion code quality, automation, and testing practices.
CRM & Internal Tools Development
- Extend Django’s admin interface to build internal CRM and admin tools.
- Customize the admin portal to support workflows and business needs.
- Partner with stakeholders to refine internal processes and tooling.
Technical Architecture & DevOps
- Contribute to architecture planning and technical design.
- Optimize the backend stack for speed, scalability, and security.
- Support CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code workflows.
- Evaluate and integrate new backend technologies.
What we’re looking for
| Must Haves
- 3+ years of experience developing APIs and backend services
- Strong understanding of API Development and best practices
- Experience with Python, Django, PostgreSQL and Redis
- Proficiency in writing clean, readable, and well-documented code
- Experience with REST APIs, GraphQL, and network request handling
- Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git
- Knowledge of backend performance profiling and optimization techniques
- Experience with testing and managing AWS infrastructure and Kubernetes
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing requirements
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
